Noise cancelling headphones and earbuds make me a better mother.
I’ve gathered 4 different sets of earbuds/headphones over the years.
I currently have a super cheap pair, a set of soundcore liberty pros, a Bluetooth headset with a mic I use for creating content and gaming,
and a mic-less variety from Tozo that I ordered for general use when I don’t want something in my ear. And I’m still considering a pair of loop earbuds to keep noise simple buffered.
I’ve put together these resources for myself and to share for a simple reason because I love my family, love myself and I know we all deserve the most present, least dysregulated most calm version of me.
as this blog posits It’s not just my son who is neurodivergent. I have ADHD Combined type along with its sidekick’s depression and anxiety. This means the standard ebb and flow of parenting can often be overwhelming.
and that means I can get distracted while playing Matre’d to my children then drop a bottle as my daughter howls in young baby because she’s hungry and seemingly a moment off schedule means she’ll waste away. Meanwhile my son looks utterly confused and heartbroken as his cheese toast burned in the time it took me to settle sister and get a bottle restarted.
and now somehow the buzz form what I have always called the serial killer lights in my kitchen makes me irrationally angry at everything and myself for seemingly not being able to balance something as simple as putting together breakfast for a 7 month old and a 5 year old.
The comes the guilt of my children having an ADHD disaster-mom who is so sound sensitive and reactive that… she’s just broken and can’t do anything right.
God, I’m a terrible mother. What is wrong with me? Why can’t I just do what my family needs without feeling like I’m going to explode?
If various pieces of plastic in my ears on occasion can allow me to stay regulated and be the chill parent I want to be who can implement Authoritative Parenting without defaulting to traditional
‘sit down, shut up, I said so and be quiet Damnit.’ Authoritarian Parenting… then Bring it on.
Now It’s not just for parenting that I have so many headsets it also for focus while working, playing audio books, listening to music or color noise during the day
(Green noise and rain sounds are currently my favorite.)
When picking ear gear that can play sounds Look for ANC or Active Noise Cancelling
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a technology in headphones that reduces unwanted background sounds, like traffic or noisy kids. It works by using tiny microphones to pick up external noise and then generating sound waves that cancel out those noises.
This means you can enjoy your music, podcasts, or just some peace and quiet without turning the volume up too high.
For moms, ANC headphones can be a great choice. They can help create a calm environment, especially when household noises become overwhelming. Whether you need some quiet time while the kids play or want to focus on a phone call, ANC can make a big difference. Plus, many ANC headphones are designed to be comfortable for long wear, perfect for busy moms on the go.
